Dr. Karla M. Kornegay, MBA is a U.S. Air Force Veteran, and a military brat who was born in Jacksonville, NC. She is the oldest of two children born to a now deceased U. S. Army Veteran and former Federal Government employee and a stay-at-home mother. She is also the proud mother of two college students, Mari and Kameryn. Karla joined the U. S. Air Force in 1994 after attending Norfolk State University for two years.
After only five years of serving in the U.S. Air Force, she became one of the first African American female Aircraft Mission Schedulers, responsible for scheduling and executing high visibility, complex air refueling missions while stationed at McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey and in the Middle East. Dr. Karla served in Operational Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and South Korea, earning medals for her service. Dr. Karla earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Adult Education and Training. Dr. Karla also completed the U.S. Air Force’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program. She received an honorable medical discharge in November 2006 after being injured while serving overseas. Since then, Dr. Karla has gone on to secure several high visibility positions within the federal government.
An avid Community and Political activist since 2008, Dr. Karla served as Secretary of her community’s HOA Board of Directors. She ran as a Candidate for the Charles County Board of Education in 2014 to further serve her community in a major way, supporting the children and the teachers. In addition, Dr. Karla worked with former County Commissioner Reuben Collins and the former Charles County Citizen’s Liaison, to assist in any way she could with regard to bringing the Waldorf Beautification Project to fruition. Dr. Karla is a member of several organizations to include, the National Black MBA Association, the NAACP, the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW), Blacks in Government (BIG), the Southern MD Chapter of The Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., and the Southern Maryland Chain Chapter of the Links, Inc.
